The Intriguing Story of the Royal Bread

This guide describes the intriguing story of how the Mill became involved in an experiment to harvest, thresh and mill some wheat, then use the flour to produce some bread loaves, all within the period of one day in 1899. This was the first time this had been achived in Britain. Not only that, but two of the loaves were then sent to Queen Victoria at Winsor Castle, and where one remains preserved to this day.

The guide than describes how loaves baked with flour milled at New Hall Mill were presented to Queen Elizabeth to commemorate her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Continuing with what was now becoming a custom
for the Mill, in 2002 some loaves and rolls baked from flour produced at the Mill were presented to Queen Elizabeth to commemorate her Golden Jubilee. Some photographs illustrating this event are available in the Picture Gallery.
