News Archive - "Mills on the Air" - 2004
|
Each year, on National Mills Weekend, groups
of amateur radio operators mark
the event with Special Event Stations at some of the many mills open
to visitors. They then attempt to establish radio
contact with the other participating mills.
During our Open Day on the 9th May 2004,
Sutton Coldfield
Amateur Radio Society once again installed an amateur radio station
in the cart shed at New Hall Mill. Here they operated using the special
radio callsign for the Mill, GB4NHM. |

In just six hours on the Sunday, they succeeded in establishing two-way
contact with 23 other mills operating in this annual event, although
the event itself extends over two days.
As well as the mills, the group contacted many other radio stations,
including those at the Guide Dogs of Scotland in Irving, Ayrshire,
the Horsington Beer Festival in Somerset, and Bletchley Park, home
of secret Station X in World War Two, based near Milton Keynes.
