The visits by Malcolm Caine, a wood turner from the West Midlands Woodturners, have become
a popular attraction. Setting up his lathe in the cart-barn, it soon becomes surrounded by
many interested visitors and usually remains busy throughout the day until the Mill closes.
A stock of small wooden pieces soon get converted into various items, including knobs for
light pulls, wooden bowls, sometimes even colourful apples. Normally, by the end of the day,
very few items remain. Many visitors, having seen them being made, purchase them as soon as
they are completed and removed from the lathe.
Meetings and demonstrations are held locally on Sunday afternoons
at Water Orton during school term time. For more information, visit
their website at www.wmwoodturners.org.uk.
